Meal planning and changing your shopping habits

One of the first things that you can do to boost your family budget is to start focusing on one of the things you may spend more on than you realise. Your food shopping. It is easy to ensure that you reduce it and a few simple changes to your habits can make the biggest of differences. First of all, meal planning can stop you buying unnecessary things and feeling rushed in an evening, which can also stop you from ordering in when things are overwhelming. Writing a list can then help to reduce food waste and overall save you a lot each week.

Switching your bills and making instant savings

We all have bills that we just pay each month without another thought. Insurance policies, energy bills, to name a few. So it may be time to start thinking about switching providers and making some instant savings. Many companies save the best deals for new customers so this could really work in your favour.

Saving money with different options

Many people have a goal to save money as they enter into the new year. It might be for holidays or little luxuries in life, so you may want to start thinking about how you can make some savings. Other things to consider include saving challenges, where you save small amounts each week or day to help you build up a nice nest egg for the end of the year.

Decluttering and selling online

It may be time to start looking closer to home, and after Christmas you may find you have more things and it could be time to declutter and sell unwanted things online. This can be a great booster for your income, and website slike eBay.com can be a really popular way to do it, and fast. Many people do this as a way to save for other things, or put money towards the things they really want.

Use any spare time wisely

Finally, using your spare time could be a great way to boost your income. In an evening, you could log into your smartphone and fill out online surveys for extra cash. You could perform mystery shops and benefit from meals out or contribute to your bill with a fee as well. It could be that you like the idea of website testing and earning cash that way. There are many ways you can make money online, you just need to know where to look.

  1. Great list, think we could all do with saving some money after Christmas! I like the sound of decluttering and selling online, I just never get round to it – I will have to get on with it this year! Thanks for the idea and motivation!

  2. Such a great post. I’m not good in budgeting my money. For the pass few years, I wasted my money. Thanks God just last year when I got married, I found a financial coach and bought his book. It helped me a lot and changed my mindset in spending and budgeting. I agree on having a meal plan. That would really help! And of course selling unused clothing online instead of putting it in a storage.

  4. Staying on a budget is a real challenge. Before I met my husband I used to spend a lot of money eating out, but he with his numbers and math lol taught me that I was spending way to much and that I could’ve save money but just doing meal preps. It’s definitely game changing! That’s my way to save money. Great tips btw!

  5. Such great ideas! I love the decluttering and selling on line. I just put a few things on ebay this weekend to get rid of since I’ve started a “saving for a rental home” fund! Which could turn into a “saving for a cool vacation fund” pretty quickly also LOL
